Experience thrill and style, with astounding views of the place where the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea meet, and the Floridian, white-sandy coast. Then, wait until it gets dark! Miami Beach is considered a world-class destination itself, separate from its big neighbor across the Biscayne Bay, six miles to the West, the city of Miami. From North to South Beach, with nice museums , art galleries and shopping districts, this is a place that has something really special for everyone!
Our time here was short and quite active, but we still had the opportunity to lay on the sand and swim at the pleasing beach. The water temperature was just amazing! A cool, tropical breeze was present, it gave us a break from the intense sun. People from all over the world walking by, young people roller-skating and biking nearby, the white resorts in the background, extending for miles and miles. Then, the fruit cocktails came in! The day and the weather were just as beautiful as it could possibly be. This is the daytime magic of South Beach!
All of the great weather lasted for a couple more days, and then.. storms and lightning in the horizon! The rain came in. We visited at the end of June, when the hurricane season had already started. The storm left the way it came in, really fast! Miami Beach sees incredible sunshine quite often, but due to its capricious weather, spring breakers, and crazy summer heat, we were told that the best time to visit is from the end of October, until the beginning of April.
With it’s renowned upscale restaurants, night clubs where celebrity DJ’s are regulars, Art-Deco buildings and historic places, Miami Beach offers a quite unique combination of culture and history, for a nice museum visit, go to Vizcaya Museum and gardens in the neighboring Miami!
The real thrill starts at night. We enjoyed dinner while a Cuban band played live at sunset, then, later that night, headed to Ocean Drive, where we found city blocks full of bright and colored neon lights, dance music and happy people just everywhere. Suddenly, fireworks at the beach, truly unforgettable..!
A few points: If you happen to bring your own car or rent it, is pretty hard to find parking spots, and when you do, you have to download the city apps to be able to pay (no cash or atm card booths). The adjacent private parking lots were quite expensive for just a few hours ($40+). We found a city parking lot near 5th street at decent rates. Traffic gets jammed during weekend nights. Miami Beach is not famous for it’s budget prices, particularly at restaurants and bars. Be ready to pay $20-30 for a drink on average, and spend much more for a full-course dinner per-person. Like everywhere else you travel, book flights and hotels in advance. Depends on the time of the year, here you might find crowds of people just everywhere.
Miami Beach, with it’s delightful beaches, Latin American and Caribbean influence, classy neon Art Deco, and that strong nostalgia from the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s makes a great, unforgettable destination!
